The Red Sox called up Manny Delcarmen from Triple-A Pawtucket Tuesday, according to the AP. He held a 2.79 ERA and struck out 14 batters in 9 2/3 innings with Triple-A Pawtucket. Delcarmen began the season at Double-A Portland, where he was 4-4 with three saves and a 3.23 ERA in 31 games. He will be used in middle relief.

The Red Sox are expected to officially recall Manny Delcarmen from Triple-A Pawtucket before today's game, according to the Boston Globe. Delcarmen opened the year with Double-A Portland, but after a recent promotion he's struck out 12 with a 3.00 ERA over nine innings for Pawtucket.

Manny Delcarmen has fully recovered from Tommy John surgery performed in May of 2003 and is again considered one of Boston's top prospects, according to the Boston Herald. He worked as a reliever in the Arizona Fall League and is slated to begin this season with Double-A Portland.
