Dan Haren already has a career-high 16 victories this season, now he is in search of his first 200-K season, according to The Arizona Republic. "When I'm throwing balls exactly where I want it, I tend to get more strikeouts," he said. "As the year went along and I was really throwing the ball well, it was when I had my best command."

Dan Haren gave up five earned runs on 11 hits in his last start against the Padres and is aiming to make adjustments when he faces them again at PETCO Park next week, according to the Arizona Republic. The Padres had success against him while aggressively swinging early in the count, and manager Bob Melvin said, "The Padres definitely are a team that's pretty aggressive but surprised me a little last night. Haren just doesn't walk anybody. As dominant as he's been, I think it was a pretty good approach for them. They'll have to face him again at their place, and Danny's pretty good about making adjustments and can throw breaking stuff for strikes early in the count. So we'll see how adjustments go on both sides."

Haren was solid throughout but two mistakes were hit for home runs ruining his outing. Haren has one more start scheduled before the regular season (slated to start the second game of the year), and the team has decided to use these last two outings to test Haren’s ability to go deep into games. Today’s performance is a good sign that the righty should be just fine. "I felt good," Haren said. "I tried to treat it like it was a real game. I was able to work with Robby for the first time, which was nice, and much needed, too. My arm continues to gain strength. Obviously, the results were good. I'm not necessarily looking for the greatest results. I just want to make sure all my pitches are crisp and there, and they were today. I'm sure that's why I had success today. I'm just glad I got my pitch count up to 90. I should be good to go next time for a full load."

Dan Haren mostly threw sinking fastballs and splitters after joining the A's, but he's been working on elevating his fastballs this spring with the Diamondbacks, according to the Arizona Republic. "Going up in the zone, elevating, especially after throwing a few down there, can be useful," he said. "Changing their eye level . . . if they swing at it or not," he said, "just to change it and then maybe go back to the split or breaking ball from there, just change it up a bit." You have to love a 15-game winner, who carried a 3.07 ERA and 1.21 WHIP last season, who wants to keep improving his game.

Haren is a top-tiered mixed league option. His move from the AL to NL is positive; his venue move from Oakland to Arizona isn't.
