The D'Backs briefly discussed a contract extension with Brandon Webb, but those talks quickly died out. "I would say that the issue is tabled," Webb's agent, Jonathan Maurer told the Arizona Republic. "There was some brief conversation about Brandon, but there's no further conversation on a contract planned at this time." Webb is already under contract through 2009 with a club option for 2010, but Arizona is looking to lock him up further and recently presented Webb an offer for a three-year extension through 2013, which the pitcher turned down.

Bob Melvin has set his rotation for the NLCS. There are no surprises, as Brandon Webb will get the ball in Game 1, and he'll be followed by Doug Davis, Livan Hernandez and Micah Owings, according to the Arizona Republic.

Brandon Webb was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday the Diamondbacks are concerned that rain might their ace's last start of the season. "We can't lose this guy," manager Bob Melvin said in the Arizona Republic. "We can't get into a situation where he's out there for an inning or two and we stop (because of a rain delay) and have to try to bring him back." Micah Owings started in place of Webb, who will now likely start tomorrow instead.

Brandon Webb has been hit hard in his last two outings, allowing 10 runs in 12 1/3 innings, but he insists that his high innings total is not the cause of his struggles, according to the Arizona Republic. "I feel real good," he said. "I haven't felt any fatigue arm-wise at all. I'm still feeling all right. Early on in my career, when I first started throwing 200 innings, I could feel it a little bit. A lot of times, we were out of it. Now that we've got something extra to play for, I'm thinking it probably won't affect me as much as if we were totally out of it."

Brandon Webb saw his scoreless inning streak end quickly on Wednesday - he allowed a run in the first inning against Milwaukee - but otherwise it was a smooth night for him (seven innings, two runs, win number 14). Webb worked 42 straight scoreless innings before the streak was snapped here.

Brandon Webb threw 88 pitches in a game between Diamondback minor league teams on Tuesday, according to the AP. It was Webb's regular day to pitch and the Diamondbacks didn't want him to pitch against the Rockies, whom he'll face in the opener Monday in Denver.
