Adam Loewen was called on to pitch on Friday after Erik Bedard came down with food poisoning and Russ Ortiz was unable to record even a single out as the emergency replacement. Loewen pitched four innings and allowed five hits and five earned runs. He was scheduled to start Sunday but will now be pushed back to next week.

The Orioles recalled Adam Loewen from Triple-A Ottawa Friday to replace the struggling Daniel Cabrera in the rotation, according to the AP. Loewen held a 7.12 ERA in an earlier stint with Baltimore but had a 1.27 ERA in three starts for Ottawa since being demoted. Loewen will likely start on Tuesday in Oakland.

Manager Sam Perlozzo is leaning towards giving Adam Loewen another start this weekend against the Mets, according to the Baltimore Sun. He's tentatively slated to go on Sunday against Tom Glavine. "We're leaning toward it," Perlozzo said when asked if Loewen will get another start. "We haven't made a final [decision]. We're trying to sort out a few other things that may change some things. Nothing is really solid right now." Loewen holds a 7.84 ERA in five games (three starts) with the O's this year.

"He's certainly going to learn something up here, working with Leo [Mazzone]," Perlozzo said. "If someone fails, he can still step in.
