Much of the recent struggles of Nick Swisher can be attributed to several illnesses which caused him to lose 15 pounds in early July, according to the Contra Costa Times. However, he is in the process of regaining his strength and is getting ready to break out of his slump.

Nick Swisher has struggled mightily as of late, hitting just .188 in July while striking out a whopping 48 times in his last 38 games, according to the Mercury News. With Dan Johnson raking at Triple-A, Swisher could see a decreased amount of playing time if Johnson is recalled.

Oakland's acquisition of Frank Thomas could cut into the playing time of 1B/OF Nick Swisher. After the addition of Milton Bradley, Swisher was expected to move to first base, with Dan Johnson going to DH. But for as long as Thomas is healthy enough to play, he'll be the primary DH, with Johnson at first and Swisher looking for time in left field along with Jay Payton and Bobby Kielty.
