Nick Swisher tested his sore hamstring Tuesday and came out okay, so he started at first base against the White Sox. Swisher went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.

Nick Swisher left Friday's game against the Orioles in the seventh inning with a sprained right shoulder, according to the AP. He suffered the injury while trying to make a diving catch at the warning track in center field. It's unclear if this malady will cause him to miss any time.

Nick Swisher agreed to a five-year contract extension with the A's on Friday, according to the AP. The deal runs through the 2011 season and contains a club option for 2012. Terms of the deal were not announced. Swisher is hitting .286 with six homers and 17 RBI this season.

Nick Swisher, who's been sidelined with a strained left hamstring, returned to the lineup against Tampa Bay on Friday. He started at DH and went 2-for-4 at the plate with a game-winning three-run homer in the ninth inning. He's expected to return to the outfield on Saturday.

Nick Swisher is expected to be back in the lineup for the A's on Friday against the Devil Rays, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He ran at about 75 percent effort Tuesday and manager Bo Geren said, "he looked real good." Swisher hasn't played since April 24 due to a strained left hamstring, and owners in daily transaction leagues should be ready to activate him this weekend.

"That would be a nice target date," Geren said. "Anytime with a hamstring the first few days you never know. Sometimes they heal quick and sometimes you don't know. He feels like it'll be four or five days."

The Athletics are now expecting Nick Swisher to miss the rest of the five-game homestand with his sore left hamstring, according to the team's official site. Bob Geren said Swisher was sent for an MRI Wednesday but was vague about what it revealed. "I don't want to get it wrong, as far as whether they found out it was a Grade 1 [strain] or Grade 2 or whatever, but it's relatively minor," said Geren, albeit he hasn't ruled out a DL trip. Swisher said he felt better Wednesday, adding that he hoped to be ready to play by the time the A's open a two-game series in Boston on May 1.
