Jeff Francoeur was fitted Monday for a single contact lens for his right eye, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The outfielder's vision has deteriorated since he was struck in the face by a pitch while squaring to bunt in a 2004 minor league game, and he thinks it might be a cause for the large gap between his stats in day and night games. "We'll see what happens," said Francoeur, who wore the contact lens in Monday night's series opener against Milwaukee. "I'm near-sighted in my right eye a little since I had surgery [for multiple fractures of his right cheek and orbital bone around the eye]. I'm not making excuses, but I feel like I haven't been able to recognize pitches. I've only got to wear it at night."

Manager Bobby Cox tweaked the Braves' lineup for today against the Rangers, and decided to drop struggling slugger Jeff Francoeur to seventh in the batting order, according to MLB.com. Cox said, "Just changing it around a little bit. With the DH, you can do this. It's just for today." Gregor Blanco is also batting leadoff today.

Jeff Francoeur went 3-for-5 with three RBI on Saturday to up his season average to .348 over 23 AB. Franceour saw his HR total dwindle to 19 from 29 last season, but his average went up .033 points while his OPS improved by .040. If he can cut down on his strikeouts while continuing to work the strike zone, Francoeur should have little problem producing his third straight 100-RBI season.

Rising star Jeff Francoeur only went 1-for-5 on opening day against Pittsburgh, but he collected his first home run, a solo shot off of F. Osoria, who went on to collect the win in a 12-11 game that went 12 innings. Francoeur has enough power to challenge 40 homers, and he is off to a good start in that department.

He swung at the first pitch he saw to begin the second inning and grounded out but never hesitated at the plate. Francoeur will try and build on his 19 home run 105 RBI season of a year ago.

"Scared the (crap) out of me," said Braves manager Bobby Cox. "I thought something had to be broken." He suffered only some cuts in his mouth, though he'll be examined further on Monday. Francoeur said he hopes to return to action on Wednesday or Thursday.

It appears unlikely that the Braves will be able to lock up Jeff Francoeur to a long-term contract before the regular season begins, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I think I've made it known to everybody I want to be a Brave," said Francoeur. "I want to be here a long time. It's also got to be right on both sides." GM Frank Wren said Saturday that the only recent talks have revolved around a one-year deal, so unless he's putting up a smoke screen or things change soon, that's probably all that will be worked out. At this point, Francoeur seems fine with working through his one-year deals until he can hit salary arbitration.

Jeff Francoeur lifted a lot of weights over the offseason in an effort to add muscle and to help him get through the season without wearing down. "I feel good — a lot better" than last season, Francoeur said in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Frenchy said he gained 17 pounds over the offseason, and he plans on lifting weights four times a week during the regular season to maintain strength. He stopped lifting after camp last year. Francoeur improved his plate discipline last year but saw his power numbers dip. If we can get the best of both worlds from him, watch out.
