Maddux owns 350 career victories and has gotten the better in his confrontations with the 23-year-old Giant. The last time they met in San Francisco, the result was lopsided. Maddux silenced the Giants in their April 7 home opener, allowing one run and three hits in seven innings in an 8-4 Padres triumph. Cain struggled, yielding five runs (four earned) and seven hits while walking five in 4 1/3 innings. The last time they met, period, was much more of a standoff.
