Luke Hudson underwent surgery on his ailing right shoulder on Thursday. According to the team’s official website, Hudson will likely be moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.

The Royals are expected to place Luke Hudson on the disabled list before today's game, according to the KC Star. He just came off the disabled list to start Thursday's game, and though he said he experienced no problems with his ailing shoulder, that's obviously not the case. "I could see something was wrong," manager Buddy Bell said. "He just kept tucking his arm and throwing from side to side. He wasn’t getting any kind of extension. As it turned out, he felt a little something and thought he could pitch through it. He’s one of our tougher guys."

As expected, the Royals activated Luke Hudson from the disabled list to start Thursday's game. He lasted just two innings against the A's, who scored five runs (four earned) on two hits and four walks. Hudson, who had been out with tightness in his pitching elbow, failed to strike out a batter.

Hudson was scheduled to be the No. 3 starter before right shoulder inflammation put him on the 15-day disabled list. The first day he is eligible to come off is April 16. "Now I just have to build up my pitch count," Hudson said. "As soon as I can do that and get up to 90 pitches or however many pitches I need to get up to, I will come off."
