Wil Nieves was recalled to the majors because of the injury to the hand of Paul Lo Duca, this according to the AP. To make room for Nieves, Chris Schroder was sent to Columbus.

July 27, 2007
Wil Nieves has accepted his assignment to Triple-A. Jorge Posada is the teams primary catcher with newly acquired Jose Molina serving as his backup.

The Yankees designated Wil Nieves for assignment on Sunday to create space on the roster for the newly acquired Jose Molina, according to the AP. Nieves hit just .164 in 61 at-bats with the Yanks this year.

Wil Nieves caught Mike Mussina for the second straight game Wednesday, with Jorge Posada sliding over to DH, the AP reports. Mussina has thrown two strong games working with Nieves, though Nieves hasn't helped anyone with his bat (5-for-41 on the year).
