Brendan Harris, acquired by the Twins in the Delmon Young/Matt Garza swap, will likely serve as Minnesota's starting shortstop in 2008. He could also see playing time at third and second base. Harris may offer a bit more offensively than Jason Bartlett, who was sent to Tampa in the deal, but his defense isn't nearly as good.

Brendan Harris (leg) might not play again this year, the AP reports. He hasn't played since Sept. 17. He was somewhat useful for Tampa Bay in 2007, hitting .286 with 12 homers in 521 at-bats.

Brendan Harris remained sidelined Friday due to his strained left lat. "It feels better, but it's not like a sore ankle and you just try to run through it," Harris told the St. Petersburg Times. Harris said he hopes to return to action no later than Tuesday.

Brendan Harris will get a day off Thursday after starting 84 of 89 games, the AP reports. Josh Wilson will pick up the start in his place.

Devil Rays manager Joe Maddon confirmed the obvious about Brendan Harris passing Ben Zobrist to take over the role as the team's primary shortstop, according to the St. Petersburg Times. "He is right now. Absolutely. I can't deny that," Maddon said. "It's semantics. He's playing the preponderance of the time. So I think I'd have to consider him the starter at this moment. He's done a nice job. I think he deserves to play right now. I really do. That's how I'm seeing it."

Brendan Harris made his third consecutive start Tuesday after getting only one start in the first 11 games of the season, the Tampa Tribune reports. Harris went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, making him 7-for-15 over the last four days. He stepped in for struggling SS Ben Zobrist after playing third base the night before.

Brendan Harris seems assured a roster spot with the Devil Rays, according to the Tampa Tribune. If we assume Harris gets the nod at the utility infield spot, that means Jorge Cantu and Jonny Gomes are probably battling for the final position on the roster.

The Devil Rays acquired infielder Brendan Harris from the Reds for a player to be named or cash. With Jorge Cantu and Akinori Iwamura already on the roster, the Rays have little use for Harris, and he'll have trouble winning a job.
