The Tigers purchased the contract of Mike Hessman from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, according to the AP. He will be making his season debut and will start at first base and bat eighth against the White Sox on Monday night. He led the International League with 27 home runs and hit .256 with 87 RBI.

Mike Hessman was optioned to Triple-A Richmond to clear a roster spot for Adam LaRoche, who was activated from the DL. Hessman batted .130 with two homers and five RBI in 29 games with Atlanta.
