Luis Ayala's tough May continued on Sunday. The reliever served up three hits and three runs over one inning against the Nationals. Ayala gave up two homers and took the loss. He has allowed nine runs in his last five appearances.
February 22, 2008
Luis Ayala said he's progressively gotten better since being hit by a shotgun pellet in December and is ready to pitch, according to the Washington Post. Ayala said he felt intense pain and numbness in his fingers for the first couple of weeks. The pellet remains lodged in his left shoulder, but hopefully it won't irritate the nerve in the joint again.
January 4, 2008
Luis Ayala suffered a bruised nerve in his upper forearm when he was hit by a shotgun pellet during a hunting trip. However, the reliever has no artery damage and the nerve is intact, and he's expected to participate fully in spring training, according to the AP. Ayala was solid last year in his return from Tommy John surgery, posting a 3.19 ERA in 44 games.
June 21, 2007
The Nationals activated Luis Ayala from the 60-day disabled list on Wednesday. He had been out since undergoing Tommy John surgery in March of 2006.
June 20, 2007
Luis Ayala will be activated from the 60-day disabled list Friday, the AP reports. Ayala hasn't pitched for Washington since 2005 because of right elbow surgery, so maintain a healthy bit of skepticism here.
