Luis Ayala was not available to pitch on Friday night because of tightness in his right elbow, according to the official Expos website. Ayala played catch before the game and said he could pitch, but manager Frank Robinson elected to hold him out. Ayala is expected to be available today.

The Expos hoped Luis Ayala would skip winter ball to rest up for the upcoming season, after he ran out of gas at the end of last season, according to the Montreal Gazette. He didn't play until halfway through the winter season, though he ended up playing in the playoffs, as well.
