Luis Ayala threw a simulated game Monday and will have his elbow examined today, according to the Washington Post. He has a bone spur in his elbow but was optimistic yesterday about returning this season.

Nationals manager Frank Robinson said there's a chance Luis Ayala will have to stop pitching this season because of a bone spur in his right elbow, according to the Washington Post. Nationals team physician Bruce Thomas hopes Ayala can avoid such a fate. "He doesn't want to do that," Thomas said. "There's a chance that he'll be able to get through this without surgery."
