Fernando Cabrera is making favorable progress as he tries to returm from elbow surgery, according to the Washington Post. He reportedly looked strong during a pregame pen session that included 35 pitches, mostly consisting of fastballs. Pitching coach Rick Kranitz stated, "Cabrera was as good as I've seen him. His delivery looked like it was much improved from what I saw in spring training. His arm strength looks real good." He will pitch again on Sunday.

Fernando Cabrera, sidelined after having cleanup surgery on his right elbow, is expected to spend the entire month of April at extended spring training, according to the Baltimore Sun. Cabrera is a obviously a long way from returning, but he could work himself into the bullpen mix eventually.

Fernando Cabrera, who had cleanup surgery on his elbow over the winter, won't be ready to pitch anytime soon. It's not clear when he'll be ready to toe the rubber, but he definitely won't be ready by opening day, according to the Baltimore Sun. Cabrera could excel out of the pen if he learns how to harness his terrific stuff. This is obviously a roadblock in his development.

Fernando Cabrera had minor surgery on his right arm over the winter, which might cause him to be a week to 10 days behind when spring training starts, according to the Baltimore Sun. Cabrera, who was claimed off waivers from the Indians last year, could be a longshot candidate for the closer role, and this news obviously won't help his chances.
August 22, 2007
The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have reached a minor league deal with Fernando Cabrera, who was released by the Indians on August 9. He is expected to report to Triple-A Norfolk and be called up in September. Cabrera struggled with the Tribe this year, posting a 5.61 ERA in 24 outings, but he still throws a devastating slider and has considerable potential, so perhaps pitching coach Leo Mazzone can get him back on the right track.
