The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have reached a minor league deal with Fernando Cabrera, who was released by the Indians on August 9. He is expected to report to Triple-A Norfolk and be called up in September. Cabrera struggled with the Tribe this year, posting a 5.61 ERA in 24 outings, but he still throws a devastating slider and has considerable potential, so perhaps pitching coach Leo Mazzone can get him back on the right track.

Fernando Cabrera was released by the Indians Thursday, eight days after the team designated him for assignment. Cabrera had been considered a closer of the future a few years back, but he's been a mess for most of 2007 (5.61 ERA, 22 walks in 33 2/3 innings).

Fernando Cabrera was designated for assignment after Tuesday's loss to the Rangers. Since he is out of options, the Indians now haave 10 days to trade, release, or outright him to the minor leagues. According to the team's official website, a corresponding move has not been announced, but Cabrera's roster spot will likely be fille by Aaron Fultz, who's expected to be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday. Cabrera was once a top-notch prospect, but he struggled mightily in the bullpen this year, going 1-2 with a 5.61 ERA in 33.2 innings pitched.
