Javier Lopez and the Red Sox avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $840,000 contract Friday. The lefty specialist held a 3.10 ERA in 61 games last year. Strangely, he was much more effective against righties, holding them to a .176 average, as opposed to the .293 mark lefties had against him.
