The Cubs will take advantage of their off-day Thursday to skip Angel Guzman in the rotation this week, according to the Daily Southtown. They want to work on his mechanics after he was rocked for seven runs on nine hits over 2 2/3 innings Saturday. He'll be available in relief beginning today.

The Cubs sent Angel Guzman back to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, according to the AP. He was 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in six appearances for Chicago. Glendon Rusch was activated off the DL and took Guzman's place in the bullpen.

Angel Guzman will not take Carlos Marmol's place in the rotation on Wednesday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The Cubs had talked about replacing the struggling Marmol in the rotation, but it appears he will get at least one more start.

It appears that if Angel Guzman isn't needed in long relief in the next couple of days, he'll replace struggling rookie Carlos Marmol as the Cubs starter for Wednesday's game, according to the Daily Southtown. In four starts earlier this season, Guzman was 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA, but he recently struck out eight over 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on three hits to the Tigers.

Guzman was 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in four starts for the Cubs. He walked five batters, hit one, threw a wild pitch and allowed two runs in three innings in last start on Friday.

Otherwise, the Cubs might recall Rich Hill. Guzman has allowed 15 hits and 12 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings for Iowa this season but also has 23 strikeouts and only three walks.
