Felix Pie could potentially get sent down to the minors, according to the Arlington Daily Herald. Lou Piniella wouldn't reveal how long the Cubs would work with Pie on his hitting at the major-league level, but when asked if Pie could get sent down to Triple-A to work on his game, Piniella said, "Nothing's indefinitely. We'll just leave it at nothing's indefinitely."
April 24, 2008
Felix Pie was the only Cub batter who had more than one hit on Thursday as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI against the Rockies.
April 9, 2008
Felix Pie's two-run single in the top of the 15th inning allowed Chicago to somehow outlast the fiery Pirates on Wednesday night. Chicago beat Pittsburgh 10-8 in 12 innings in the previous game Monday, meaning they have played 27 innings in two games. Pie, who appears to have lost his starting gig to Reed Johnson, came off the bench to lead the Cubs in Wednesday win.
April 6, 2008
Felix Pie sat out another game on Sunday, likely due to his sore right hand. Reed Johnson will once again fill his spot in the starting lineup.
April 6, 2008
Felix Pie was benched in favor of Reed Johnson on Saturday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Manager Piniella wanted to experiment with the lineup so he moved Johnson up to the number two spot in the batting order, and moved Ryan Theriot down to eighth. Piniella stated, "Your bench has to help you at times win baseball games and the only way to do that is by getting a chance to play. If they sit too long, they lose their sharpness." Johnson played well as he went 2-for-5 with two RBI in a 9-7 win over Houston.

Felix Pie started on Friday despite a bruised right hand/wrist. He went 0-for-4 against the Astros. Maybe he should have taken a day off, huh?
April 4, 2008
Felix Pie bruised his hand/wrist when he was hit by a pitch on Thursday. He stayed in the game and didn't need X-rays, but Reed Johnson may start in his place on Friday, the Chicago Sun-Times notes.
March 26, 2008
Felix Pie enjoyed one of his best outings of the spring against the Angels on Wednesday as he went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and two stolen bases. He displayed his solid speed today, but could remain at the bottom of the batting order with Theriot and Soriano unlikely to drop.
March 24, 2008
Felix Pie went 3-for-3 on Monday with two runs scored from the eight spot in the Cubs batting order. Pie just may hit enough to maintain a spot in the Cubs lineup, but if he continues to hit at the bottom of the order, and there is no reason to think he will not, his upside appears to be limited.
March 21, 2008
Felix Pie, the likely starter in CF for the Cubs, went 1-for-4 with a double on Friday, and he finished the game with a .256 batting average this spring. Pie has long been a thorn in the side of minor league pitchers, but he has struggled when facing the competition in the big leagues. We're not sure if we should expect more than a .250 mark from Pie this season, and if he does hit that low will he be able to hold on to the Cubs starting CF job?

It looks like you can consider that competition between Felix Pie and Sam Fuld in center field to be over. "There was a little competition in center between [Felix] Pie and [Sam] Fuld, but I know Pie is going to end up playing the position," manager Lou Piniella said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Pie still is recovering from surgery that corrected a twisted testicle, but should he be fine and starting at the beginning of the season.
March 15, 2008
The Cubs likely will hold Felix Pie out of action until Tuesday, but manager Lou Piniella didn't expect the absence to affect Pie's battle with Sam Fuld in center field, according to the Chicago Tribune. "I would think as long as he's fine that what we have here in camp will be our center fielder," Piniella said. Pie is recovering from surgery that corrected a twisted testicle, but it appears that he'll be ready for the start of the season.
March 11, 2008
Following up on an earlier story, Felix Pie has returned to the Chicago Cubs, one day after undergoing what is being described as an outpatient procedure for a minor groin injury, according to the Associated Press. Earlier reports indicated Pie would be gone for three to five days, but has missed just one day and is expected to return to game action on Friday. Pie is fighting to join the major league roster and work as a regular in the Cubbies' outfield. Returning so quickly from this minor setback certainly helps his cause.
March 10, 2008
Felix Pie will miss about three to five days of action, according to ChicagoSports.com. He will need to undergo surgery to correct a personal problem called testicular torsion and the ailment is not expected to compromise his bid to be the Cubs starter in center field.
March 10, 2008
Felix Pie has taken a sizable lead over Sam Fuld to be the Cubs starting center fielder, according to the Chicago Tribune. Pie is hitting .321 with two home runs so far this spring and said,"I just want to do my job every day and change the manager's mind. It's Piniella's decision, so all I can do is play." Piniella also mentioned that he would like to see Pie raise his on-base percentage and limit his strikeouts, which he has done so far.
March 5, 2008
Centerfield hopeful Felix Pie was a depressing 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against Arizona in the Cubs' 4-5 loss in Cactus League action today, according to the Associated Press. Pie is battling with Sam Fuld for the starting job in center. Today's performance did little to help his cause.
March 4, 2008
Felix Pie went 1-for-3 with one run in the CubbiesÂ’ loss to the Brewers in the Cactus League on Tuesday.
March 2, 2008
Felix Pie cracked his second homer of the spring and also drew a walk Sunday. That's the good. The bad is that he also got picked off on the basepaths after the base on balls, which undoubtedly drew the ire of manager Lou Pinella. Pie is very talented and is a clear front-runner for the Cubs center field job, but he needs to cut down on his strikeouts and mental mistakes.
February 28, 2008
Felix Pie went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI for the Cubs on Thursday. The team really hopes that Pie is able to earn the starting spot in CF because if he doesn't he might end up with the dreaded Four-A label of a player who is great in the minors but not good enough to make it in the majors.
February 28, 2008
The Chicago Tribune reports that Felix Pie has a slight lead over Sam Fuld for the starting job in center field. The rumors that the Cubs are still considering obtaining Boston's Coco Crisp could change the plans. Pie and Fuld are both considered defensive players so whomever hits this spring could win the job. Expect Pie to win the opening day role absent a complete spring meltdown.
February 15, 2008
The center field job is Felix Pie's to lose, according to the Chicago Tribune. Pie is confident he'll win the job despite his struggles last year. "The pitchers here are much better, more intelligent," he said. "[But] baseball is baseball. The more time I had up here, the more I learned. This will be the best year of my career." Sam Fuld will compete with Pie in spring training, but Fuld figures to back up at all three outfield spots.
