The Royals recalled Ryan Shealy from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday. Unfortunately, it was just a paperwork move, as they immediately placed him on the 60-day disabled list, formally ending his season in the process. Many had hoped that Shealy would break out this year, but a bum hamstring and a .221 batting average nixed that notion. The Royals will make a roster move Friday to fill the open spot on their 40-man roster.
August 12, 2007
Ryan Shealy was activated off the DL and optioned to Triple-A Saturday, as expected. "I still think he's going to be an everyday first baseman, absolutely," Buddy Bell told the AP.

It looks like Ryan Shealy won't be playing for the Royals for a while. They plan to activate him from the disabled list Saturday and option him to Triple-A Omaha, according to the KC Star. Ryan Shealy has returned from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha and will be examined on Friday by team physician Dr. Steve Joyce, the AP reports. Shealy is dealing with a nagging hamstring problem.
August 7, 2007
Ryan Shealy (hamstring) continues to crush the ball during his Triple-A rehab assignment. He currently has a six-game hitting streak going, in which he's hitting .440 (11-for-25) with four homers. "The key for him right now is just staying aggressive at the plate and not taking too many pitches," Triple-A manager Mike Jerschele told the Royals official website. Shealy's rehab stint is set to end on Wednesday, at which time the Royals will have to decide whether to option him to the minors or bring him up to Kansas City.

Ryan Shealy began a rehab assignment on Saturday. He was 1-for-5 as the designated hitter for Triple-A Omaha, according to the KC Star. He's recovering from a strained left hamstring, and the Royals have not set a date for his expected return.

June 13, 2007
Ryan Shealy was not in the starting lineup on Wednesday because of a sore right foot, reports the Kansas City Star. Shealy came into the game in the fifth inning after Mark Grudzielanek was forced to leave because of an injury of his own. It's unclear how much more time Shealy might miss, if any.

May 1, 2007
The Royals placed Ryan Shealy on the disabled list Tuesday with a hamstring injury he suffered on Monday night, according to the AP. Shealy was off to an abysmal start to the year, hitting just .113 in 53 at-bats, so perhaps some time off will do him some good. That said, if Billy Butler gets off to a hot start and Ross Gload continues to hit, Shealy may not have a job when he gets back.
May 1, 2007
The severity of Ryan Shealy's hamstring injury is still unclear, according to the Kansas City Star. He left Monday's contest in the third inning with the injury. "I don't know how serious it is," manager Buddy Bell said. "We are going to talk about Ryan's situation and probably bring somebody up."

It's uncertain if Shealy, who went 1-for-1 with an RBI double in his lone plate appearance, will be forced to miss any time with the injury.
April 29, 2007
Ryan Shealy has been on the bench six of the past 10 games, but the down time is temporary, as he tries to improve his ugly .096 batting average, according to the KC Star. "(Ross) Gload is playing well," manager Buddy Bell said, "but it’s not a platoon. We’ve got to get Ryan going, and I don’t know if that’s possible if we just play him every once in a while."
April 21, 2007
Ryan Shealy was held out of the Royals' lineup for the third straight game on Saturday. He is hitting .098 with 17 strikeouts in 41 at-bats this season.

Ryan Shealy was benched last night and could ride the pine into the weekend, assuming Ross Gload's sore quadriceps doesn't get worse, according to the KC Star. "We’ll see how Ross feels," manager Buddy Bell said, "but we want to give Ryan a day or two to clear his mind." Shealy is hitting just .098 this season.
