Even though Ryan Shealy is battling for at-bats with fellow rookie Kila Ka'aihue he is grateful the Royals are giving him a shot. Shealy homered on Tuesday night against the A's. according to Royals.com.

Ryan Shealy was one of the many Royals called up to the bigs on September 1st as major league rosters expanded, according to the Kansas City Star. Other Royals called up include Yasuhiko Yabuta, Devon Lowery and Kila Kaaihue.

Ryan Shealy collected his eighth home run in Triple-A Omaha's 4-1 loss at Sacramento on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Shealy is only hitting .213, but has 13 RBI.

Ryan Shealy, whose miserable 2007 has put him behind the eight-ball this year, is fighting for at-bats and possibly a spot on the team's opening day roster. According to the Kansas City Star, Shealy faces an uphill battle this spring to win a roster spot. With Billy Butler, Ross Gload and Mark Teahen certain to make the club --Shealy has an option remaining -- and projects as the odd man out.

Ryan Shealy homered for the second straight game on Thursday as he attempts to work his way back into the Royals' plans this season. Shealy hit .280-7-36 in 193 AB for the Royals in 2006 before slumping to .221-3-21 in 172 AB last season. Given the fact that Ross Gload and Justin Huber are also around, Shealy will have to prove himself with a solid spring to break camp with the club.

Ryan Shealy is expected to rejoin the Royals Wednesday for their road trip to Scottsdale, Ariz, according to MLB.com. "I've got him on the travel list for tomorrow," manager Trey Hillman said. "We'll see how he feels today and make a decision." Shealy has been out with a bad case of the flu and will have to step things up quickly if he's going to earn a roster spot this spring.

Ryan Shealy used the off-season this year to implement a new "old" stance in his attempt to overcome an extremely disappointing 2007 season filled with injury according to MLB.com. "I tried to eliminate my stride. I tried to spread out, kind of like [Albert] Pujols does a little bit. I found that I couldn't let the ball get there. Offspeed [stuff] was just eating me up." Shealy is in an uphill battle for playing time at 1B with Billy Butler, Ross Gload and even Mark Teahan likely to see time there rendering Shealy as nothing more than a speculative play in AL Only leagues at the moment.

Ryan Shealy is coming off a hugely disappointing, injury-plagued season in which he hit just .221 with three homers and 21 RBI in 52 games, but the Royals aren't giving up on him yet, according to the Kansas City Star. “I was just talking with (hitting coach) Mike Barnett about Ryan the other day,” Royals GM Dayton Moore said. “And he reports that Ryan is in great shape, and he looks good swinging the bat. We still believe that Ryan can be a valuable part of this team. Last year you can just throw out. He had the hamstring problems, the broken bone in his foot. He was never himself. You can’t make any judgments off that season.” Shealy will have to battle Ross Gload, a career .294 hitter, for at-bats at first base in KC this season.
