Rickie Weeks had his surgically repaired thumb examined recently, and he remains on target to be ready for spring training, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "The doctor said he can begin weight-lifting but cautioned against putting the thumb in a stress situation," said assistant GM Gord Ash. "If a double switch warrants it, I'll do it," Yost said. "But I ain't doing it just to take him out of games. I take it day to day, game to game, but I've also got the big picture focus in my mind of what I'm trying to accomplish."

The Brewers don't plan to shut Rickie Weeks down early so he can have surgery to repair what apparently is a torn ligament in his left thumb, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "If he has anything done to his thumb, it's not going to be major," manager Ned Yost said. "It's not going to be a two-month or three-month rehab process. That's not going to be a huge issue or as big as people want to make it to be. We're pretty smart about this stuff. If it was anything that was real serious, we'd take care of it now."
September 1, 2005
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Rickie Weeks has been playing with a sore left thumb that may require offseason surgery. The Brewers are not disclosing the nature of the injury. "There are some things from a strategic standpoint that we don't want to share, at least not at this point," assistant GM Gord Ash said.
