Diamondbacks manager Bob Mevlin said that Stephen Drew's strained left groin is feeling better, according to the Arizona Republic. However, he added that Drew probably won't start again until at least Thursday.

Stephen Drew missed his second straight game Tuesday due to inflammation in his right hand. However, manager Bob Melvin said there is a chance that the shortstop will take part in tonight's game. "I think he's a little puzzled that it's bothering him to this level," Melvin said. "Usually stuff like that, even if you're playing, unless you reaggravate it, it usually gets a little better and it just hasn't for him."

"When he (Counsell) gets here, we'll talk about it," said manager Bob Melvin, adding, "Stephen's going to play. Absolutely, Stephen's going to play."

Stephen Drew got a day off Monday to rest a sore right hand, but he is expected to be back in the lineup today, according to the Arizona Republic. "You've got to play through some pain," Drew said. Drew is hitting .344 with three homers and 12 RBI in 96-bats with the D'Backs.

Stephen Drew will likely be the Diamondbacks starting shortstop for the remainder of 2006, according to the East Valley Tribune. Craig Counsell, who is out of action with a broken rib, isn't due back until September. Even when Counsell does return, it will probably be in a reserve role, as Drew has been playing solid baseball.

Drew, who was replaced in the lineup by Damion Easley, was available to pinch-hit. Stephen Drew, the Diamondbacks' first-round pick in the 2004 draft, made his major league debut at shortstop, going 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Saturday night. Manager Bob Melvin batted Drew eighth and said Drew would be his everyday shortstop, at least until the injured Craig Counsell returns in three-to-six weeks. "Drew is going to play," Melvin said. "We wouldn't have him here if he wasn't going to be an everyday player."
