The Cubs acquired David Aardsma from the Giants in the LaTroy Hawkins deal. Considered a closer of the future, Aardsma had been working as a starter for Double-A Norwich. He will begin his Cubs career with either Triple-A Iowa or Double-A West Tennessee.

David Aardsma made only one spring appearance before being optioned to the minors yesterday, according to the Contra Costa Times. He had developed a sore elbow early in camp, and the club wanted to be cautious with the prospect due to his heavy workload the last two seasons.
