Curtis Granderson didn't play on Wednesday because the Tigers faced Twins ace lefthander Johan Santana. "Lefties are hitting .151 off this guy and Granderson is in a great groove," manager Jim Leyland told the Detroit News. "But I was afraid that if I played him, [Santana] is the type of guy who could get him out of his groove and possibly affect him for a right-hander."

Curtis Granderson was given a routine night off Wednesday, in part because the Tigers were up against Johan Santana. He'll be back in the lineup Thursday. Granderson is in an 11-for-19 surge since the All-Star break, so ride him for the remainder of the week.

Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer in the fifth inning on Tuesday to become just the ninth player in major league history to reach double digits in homers, triples, and doubles before the All-Star break. Granderson is now hitting .294 with 10 homers, 40 RBI, nine steals, 22 doubles, and 14 triples.

Curtis Granderson has been out of the lineup the last two times the Tigers faced a left-handed starter, but Jim Leyland said Granderson could start Wednesday against John Danks, MLive.com reports. "It probably depends on the weather," Leyland said. Omar Infante would likely get the call in center field if Granderson does not start.

Curtis Granderson hurt his left wrist while making a sliding catch on Sunday against the Yankees, but he stayed in the game, according to the AP. Manager Jim Leyland said he would keep Granderson out of Monday's contest as a precaution.

Curtis Granderson will bat leadoff against right-handed pitching this year, with Ivan Rodriguez getting the call against lefties, the Detroit News reports. Granderson hit .274 and slugged .452 against righties last year; those numbers dipped to .218 and .395 against southpaws.
March 15, 2007
Curtis Granderson has shortened his swing in order to cut down on his strikeouts, and so far it seems to be working, as he's struck out just once in 32 at-bats this spring, according to the Detroit News. Granderson struck out a league-leading 174 times in 2006.
March 14, 2007
Curtis Granderson went 4-for-4 out of the leadoff spot Wednesday, including a home run to open the bottom of the first. Granderson, who is hitting .312 this spring, has been tucked in the bottom third of the order against left-handed starters; the Mets threw a right-hander Wednesday, so he was moved to the top of the order. Ivan Rodriguez has been the other regular leadoff man for Detroit this spring.
