Todd Wellemeyer allowed five runs in the first two innings Saturday but then settled in, holding the Padres scoreless over the next 4 1/3 frames to pick up his eighth win in the Cards' 6-5 victory.

Todd Wellemeyer noted that he is starting to get his feel back following a bout with elbow irritation, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He compared his mechanics to a golfer's swing and said, "Right now I’m trying to hit it 350 yards and I’m forcing it. I need that nice easy swing, get everything going easy first and then I turn it up a notch."

The game took 10 innings to decide, and was tied at zero when Wellemeyer left the game. The game ended on a walkoff walk with the bases loaded to Clete Thomas (given up by Mike Parisi).
