Manager Buddy Bell is toying with the idea of using Todd Wellemeyer in some save situations the rest of the way, according to the Kansas City Star. "His stuff is good enough," Bell said. "For me, he's a guy who we have to figure out what we’re going to do with him. I really like his makeup, and I like his stuff." He holds a 3.69 ERA in 24 games with the Royals this year. Joe Nelson, the team's current closer, is 6-for-6 in save opportunities.

Royals manager Buddy Bell is considering turning Todd Wellemeyer into a starting pitcher, according to the official team website. However, arm strength is an issue. "He got tired really quick," said Bell of Wellemeyer after he threw three innings of scoreless relief on Saturday. In 77 major league appearances Wellemeyer has never started a game.

According to the AP, the Royals claimed Todd Wellemeyer off waivers and designated Steve Andrade for assignment on Friday. Wellemeyer was released by the Marlins after posting a 5.48 ERA in 18 appearances out of the bullpen this season.

The Marlins are expected to release Todd Wellemeyer when Carlos Martinez comes off the DL on Friday, according to the Miami Herald. Wellemeyer, acquired in a March trade with the Cubs, was 0-2 with a 5.48 ERA in 21 1/3 innings with the Marlins.

The Cubs traded Todd Wellemeyer to the Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for minor league pitchers Lincoln Holdzkom and Zach McCormack, according to the AP. Wellemeyer held a 6.12 ERA in 22 appearances with the Cubs last year. He'll work in middle relief for the Marlins.
