The Devil Rays are concerned Edwin Jackson could be a bit rusty in his season debut Monday at Texas, given he hasn't pitched in 10 days. Given that Jackson is working on the road in a pitcher's haven like Arlington, you should keep him benched if at all possible.

Edwin Jackson won't make a start until Monday at Texas, the St. Petersburg Times reports. Wednesday's rainout pushed everyone in the Devil Rays rotation back a day.

Edwin Jackson is officially the No. 5 starter in the Devil Rays rotation now that J.P. Howell has been sent to Triple-A. Both pitchers were effective this month (Howell had a 1.80 ERA, Jackson a 1.84 ERA), albeit Jackson probably was lucky as well; he allowed 10 hits and eight walks over his 14 2/3 innings, but only gave up three runs. He also has 13 strikeouts this month.

Edwin Jackson gave up just one run and struck out four in three innings Sunday, but he also gave up two hits and walked five. Jackson holds a 1.80 ERA this spring, but he has walked six in 10 innings. Jackson is trying to win a rotation spot.

Edwin Jackson is making a strong bid for the last spot in the Devil Rays rotation, as he sports a 1.29 ERA in seven spring innings. He has given up only three hits and a walk while striking out three. Jackson also pitched well over the winter, holding a 1.60 ERA in 45 innings. Jackson will start today and will be followed by J.P. Howell, who may represent his stiffest competition for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, according to the Tampa Tribune.
