The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that new Pirate second baseman Akinori Iwamura said in a conference call on Tuesday that he would be interested in exploring a long-term deal with the team. Iwamura played in only 69 games last season due to a knee injury.

MLB.com is reporting that injured Rays' second baseman Akinori Iwamura is nearing a rehab assignment. Manager Joe Maddon told reporters, "I watched him take batting practice and he looked great. So Aki is coming on line," Maddon said. "We're getting close to [a rehab assignment]. I don't know exactly when but he looks pretty good."
