Chris Shelton didn't start for the Tigers Monday because he's been hitless in four straight games and six out of seven, according to the Detroit Free Press. "He's going to the ball too fast," manager Alan Trammell said. "He's not recognizing the pitch and then going to the ball. But he's one of our few hitters who still gets walks."

The Tigers recalled Chris Shelton from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, according to the AP. He will replace Carlos Pena on the roster. Shelton was hitting .331 with a .417 on-base percentage in 48 games for the Mud Hens. His 19 doubles and 27 extra-base hits led the International League. Shelton is likely to split time between first base and DH.
