That plan has come about largely because of Manuel's trust in relievers Chad Durbin and Ryan Madson, and that duo doesn't intend to blink if the spotlight on them becomes a little brighter.

Philadelphia can't wait to get injured closer Brad Lidge (knee) back later this week, and the team has to make a move to replace Gordon as the primary setup man. Gordon simply hasn't been effective over the last year-and-a-half.

Gordon is scheduled to fill the ninth inning role for the Phillies until Lidge returns from knee surgery. As of Monday, the Phillies still don't know who (Lidge or Gordon) close on opening day.
