Nick Markakis hit second in the batting order for the second day in a row, according to the AP. He went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and three runs scored.
August 16, 2006
As expected, Nick Markakis moved up in the batting order ninth to second on Wednesday. He responded by hitting a home run in the first inning, though it was his only hit in four at-bats. Markakis now is hitting .296 on the season.

Even though Nick Markakis has been hitting .402 since June 28 -- the best mark in the majors -- he's been hitting eighth or ninth in the Orioles' batting order. However, management has been discussing moving Markakis up in the order, according to the Baltimore Sun. The change could come as soon as this weekend after the O's wrap up their series against the Yanks. "I don't know where ... would be the best," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "I don't know if it is second, third, fifth, sixth. Then somebody else has to hit ninth, not that that should be a major concern. ... I'm not saying that it's necessary to have it happen in the next three, four or five days or the next eight weeks. Maybe it happens the last week or two of the season. I don't know. Maybe he stays there the whole season. We want him to have a good year."

The Orioles got Nick Markakis back in the mix Saturday after he missed the previous three games due to a bruised right calf. He was 1-for-4 in his return to action.
July 8, 2006
Nick Markakis was held out of his third straight game yesterday more because the Orioles faced a left-handed starter than due to his strained right calf, according to the Baltimore Sun. He probably will start today or tomorrow.
July 7, 2006
After Nick Markakis had his strained right calf re-examined yesterday, the Orioles decided he wouldn't need to be placed on the disabled list, according to the Baltimore Sun. "Obviously, I was real sore and it was really tough to walk yesterday, but it feels 10 times better," Markakis said Thursday. "I told them if they need me, I can play."
July 6, 2006
Complaining of discomfort in his lower right leg, Nick Markakis was taken to a hospital yesterday as a precaution, according to the Baltimore Sun. A sonogram revealed no vascular problems, and he was diagnosed with a strained calf. It's unclear how long the rookie will be sidelined, though more might be known following an MRI today.
July 5, 2006
Nick Markakis was out of the lineup Wednesday after he was sent to the hospital to have precautionary tests taken on a sore spot on his calf, according to the AP. Markakis was being tested to rule out any major problems. "You're always concerned," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "The trainers try to rule out anything that might be serious so you don't have to worry about it. That's pretty much what we're doing."
June 16, 2006
Nick Markakis was on the bench for the second straight game on Thursday as the Orioles faced a lefty. However, according to the Baltimore Sun, manager Sam Perlozzo plans to start giving Markakis a bit more playing time against southpaws. "Unless it's a really hard-throwing, tough left-hander, he probably needs to see a little more action against those guys." Perlozzo said.
April 26, 2006
Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo stated on Wednesday that Nick Markakis isn't in danger of being sent down, despite the fact that he's hitting just .200, according to the AP. "He's better than this," said Perlozzo. "I think he deserves a little more time." Markakis was not in the starting lineup on Wednesday.
April 7, 2006
Nick Markakis made his third consecutive start on Friday against the Red Sox. He started in center field and batted second, going 1-for-5. Markakis has now started at all three outfield positions this year.
April 5, 2006
Nick Markakis went 1-for-3 with three walks, two runs scored, and hit his first major league homer in his major league debut on Wednesday.
April 3, 2006
Nick Markakis will be a reserve today, but he should start somewhere in the outfield on Wednesday, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I would think so," manager Sam Perlozzo said.
April 1, 2006
Although Nick Markakis is on the opening day roster for the Orioles, he probably won't be in the lineup on opening day. This is simply a matter of manager Sam Perlozzo not wanting the left-handed hitting Markakis to make his big league debut against tough lefty Scott Kazmir. Markakis is likely to be in the starting lineup in left or center field most days.
March 30, 2006
The Baltimore Sun reports that it appears that rookie Nick Markakis will make the opening day roster. Manager Sam Perlozzo has said previously that Markakis would not make the team unless he was going to play regularly, so it looks like Markakis may be the starter in left field.
March 23, 2006
According to the Baltimore Sun, Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo said that a decision on whether Nick Markakis would make the team would come down to the final days of spring training. The fact that the O's sent Jeff Fiorentino to Double-A and not Triple-A might be an indication that Markakis will start at Triple-A.
March 16, 2006
Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo has indicated that Nick Markakis still has a shot to make the team and win a starting job in the outfield, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I really believe that a decision on Nick is going to come down to the end," Perlozzo said. "I think it's not fair to watch him for two weeks and make a decision. I think he's got another couple of weeks to show us which way he goes and then we'll see what the makeup of the club is toward the end." Markakis, who began the spring by reaching base in 10 of his first 11 plate appearances, is just 2-for-21 in the past eight games.
March 11, 2006
The Baltimore Sun reports that O's manager Sam Perlozzo said if Nick Markakis makes the team, the outfielder likely would hit at the bottom of the order until he establishes himself in the big leagues. He's been playing well this spring and reached base in three of his four plate appearances Friday and added a sacrifice fly.
