The Blue Jays gave Aaron Hill a day off on Saturday, and Jorge Velandia started in his place. Hill is 13-for-67 (.194) over the last 18 games. "You never want to say you need a day off, but it will be nice just to get my head straight," he tells the Toronto Star.

The Blue Jays have signed Aaron Hill to a four-year deal with $12 million, MLB.com reports. He new contract includes club options for 2012, 2013 and 2014. He joins Vernon Wells and Alex Rios as part of the long-term core of hitters.
