Daric Barton had his first three hit game of the young season on Saturday as he went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Barton appears to be a safe average play this season, and with his ability to work the count he should remain in the lineup even while struggling. However, if you have him on your roster you had better look for your power elsewhere as he has yet to develop a power bat.

Daric Barton returned to the lineup on Monday and his injured hand seemed fine as he blasted a three run home run. This according to the SF Chronicle. That was his first hit of the spring and a great sign he is healthy, as he is not known as a power hitter.

According to the A's team website, Daric Barton's injured left hand was examined by a local orthopedic specialist on Thursday and the ailment was believed to be serious. A day later Oakland manager Bob Geren reported Barton's hand is probably not as serious as first thought. "He went to a doctor yesterday, and he's day-to-day," Geren said. "He's not hitting today, but hopefully he'll be hitting in a couple of days. If he's day-to-day, he's all right. I'm not concerned." Barton missed his sixth consecutive game on Friday and is not projected to be back in the lineup again this weekend.

The hand injury suffered by Daric Barton may be worse than originally reported, this according to a report on MLB.com. Barton was sent to see a specialist on Thursday when a myriad of tests will be run to learn the extent of the injury after he missed his fifth straight game. The injury was thought to be a minor tweak that would keep him out for a few days, but things have taken a much more serious tone over the past 24 hours. The A's may find themselves happy to have brought in Mike Sweeney and to have kept Dan Johnson around if this injury turns out to be serious.

Following an earlier story, Daric Barton has missed the A's last four spring training games due to soreness on the side of his left hand, according to MLB.com. Barton states the injury is due to repitition from taking too many swings with the bat so early in the season. He fielded ground balls with the team before Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Padres but was not included in the starting lineup. The team hopes to get him back in action as early as Thursday when the A's play the Cubs at home, but that may be optimistic.
