The A’s called up first baseman Daric Barton from Triple-A Sacramento Monday. The team is expected to play Barton nearly every day to see if he is ready to join the team to start the 2008 season. "Not all September call-ups are the same. This is a real good test for him," A’s manager Bob Geren told the Associated Press.

Daric Barton has been ripping the cover off the ball at Triple-A Sacramento. The A's prospect entered Tuesday's game hitting a robust .675 during a 20-game hitting streak. GM Billy Beane said the A's won't bring the left-handed-hitting Barton to the majors to have him sit on the bench, but he's been impressed with how the youngster is progressing, according to the Mercury News.
