The Diamondbacks probably aren't going to promote Carlos Quentin this month because he's not on the 40-man roster, according to the Arizona Republic. Plus, the Diamondbacks don't want to start the clock on his major league service time when they would have trouble getting him at-bats.

Diamondbacks prospect Carlos Quentin could be on the verge of a big league promotion to relieve the struggling Jose Cruz, Jr. in center field. Quentin, a natural right fielder, has played almost exclusively in center field for Triple-A Tucson since July 2. The Arizona Republic reports that the change came at the request of the Diamondbacks. Tucson manager Chip Hale said "He's worked very hard at it, and I think he could be an adequate guy (in center) right now in the big leagues." Through Saturday, Quentin was hitting .309 with 17 homers and a .429 on-base percentage.
