The Astros inked Eric Bruntlett to a one-year deal on Friday, according to the Sports Network. Bruntlett, who hit .277 in 119 at-bats with Houston last year, will once again serve as a utilityman for the club in 2007.

The Astros recalled Eric Bruntlett from Triple-A Round Rock Monday. Bruntlett has hit .250 in 92 at-bats with the Astros this year. He will be used as a utility infielder and could also play a bit in the outfield, as well.

The Astros optioned Eric Bruntlett to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, according to the AP. Bruntlett hit .250 with seven runs and nine RBI in 92 at-bats with the Astros.

Eric Bruntlett is expected to start at shortstop over Adam Everett for at least a few days, according to the Houston Chronicle. "Bruntlett's been swinging the bat well," manager Phil Garner said. "Of course, if Bruntlett gets 10 hits in the next couple of days we might have to extend that a little bit. We'll see."
