The Phillies acquired Eric Bruntlett from the Astros on Wednesday in a deal that also netted the team Brad Lidge. Bruntlett will serve in a utility role in his new home.

Eric Bruntlett was recalled from Triple-A following Thursday's game, and he'll likely see a lot of playing time with Adam Everett (broken leg) out 4-8 weeks. Bruntlett was hitting .284 at Round Rock, with one homer and 12 stolen bases. Bruntlett won't get all the playing time at shortstop - the Astros will also use Mark Loretta there - but his stolen-base potential makes him worth bidding on in NL-only leagues.

Eric Bruntlett was sent down to Triple-A on Saturday, according to the AP. "Eric Bruntlett's done a lot for this organization and this team," GM Tim Purpura said. "It's tough to have to send somebody like that down. He's an asset. He can help us win, it's just that we don't have a spot on the roster for him right now." The offseason acquisition of Mark Loretta made Bruntlett the odd man out.

Eric Bruntlett doesn't believe he'll make the Astros' roster, as he'll likely be the odd man out due to the addition of Mark Loretta, according to the Houston Chronicle. "I don't expect to be on this team," said Bruntlett. "Unless something else happens, like a trade or someone gets hurt, as it stands right now there isn't room for me. Unless they take one less pitcher, but I don't see any way they could do that the way the pitching staff is set up."
