Kevin Correia hurled 3.1 shutout innings in his first rehab start for Class-A San Jose on Friday, and was in the Giants' dugout before Saturday's game against the Padres, according to MLB.com. Correia was placed on the 15-day DL back on April 27 due to a strained muscle in his left side, but said his oblique is no longer bothering him at all. He surrendered just one hit and one walk in his Friday appearance while using all of his regular pitches. He'll make another start for Fresno on Tuesday. He said, "I think it's pretty much ready, I just need to get my pitch count up."

Kevin Correia will make his first minor league injury rehab start Friday with Single-A San Jose. It's possible he'll need only one more rehab start after that before rejoining the Giants rotation, manager Bruce Bochy told MLB.com. Correia went on the disabled list April 27 with a strained muscle in his left side. "It's still not 100 percent," Correia said, "but that's the way it is for a while if you pull a muscle. It's not unmanageable."

Kevin Correia is playing catch but is still about two or three weeks away from returning from the DL, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from a strained left oblique, and Manager Bruce Bochy said, "With that injury, you really have to make sure it's completely gone before you get him back out there. If it flares up again, you'll be starting over."

RHP Kevin Correia pitched well today, but the offensive support failed to come through as Correia suffered the loss, 8-2, to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Correia pitched six innings, throwing 83 pitches with 54 counting for strikes. He allowed five runs on five hits, walking three and striking out six. The righty also allowed two home runs where the bulk of the damage was done.

Kevin Correia picked up his first win of the season on Thursday, as he hurled 7.2 scorless innings, with only five hits allowed against St. Louis. He had two walks and four strikeouts, and lowered his season ERA to 2.63. That was a strong outing from the Giants' number four starter.

Kevin Correia will be held out of his scheduled start Monday with what the team is describing as a "cranky" shoulder, this according to the Giants team website. The injury isn't considered serious. "We probably could have pushed it and let him [pitch], but we'll let it clear up," skipper Bruce Bochy said. The report also noted that Correia will throw briefly off a bullpen mound at Scottsdale Stadium and should make his next scheduled start, March 29 at Oakland. That should be enough, Bochy said, to prime Correia for the regular season. Correia, San Francisco's projected No. 4 starter.

Kevin Correia was dealt his first loss of the spring as he allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings against the Cubs, with four strikeouts and no walks. His spring ERA climbed to 6.48. He was fighting for a rotation spot at the beginning of spring training, but he had more than one outing like today's, and may have to settle for a spot in the bullpen if he doesn't turn it around soon.

Kevin Correia, thought to be the Giants top option for the number five spot in the rotation heading into camp, looked terrible on Thursday as he allowed five runs, four earned, in one inning. Lowry didn't walk a batter but he allowed seven hits. If Jonathan Sanchez was around he might have an inner smile going as he will likely need Correia to falter in order to claim the fifth spot for himself.

The Giants and Kevin Correia avoided salary arbitration Friday by agreeing to a $1,075,000 contract for 2008. Correia is slated to be the team's fifth starter this season after going 3-1 with a 2.54 ERA in eight starts over the final six weeks of last season. He started the season in the bullpen, and went 4-7 with a 3.45 ERA in 101 2-3 innings overall.
