Chad Gaudin has a torn labrum in his left hip. He's going to undergo surgery to repair the damage on Tuesday and also will have a bone removed from his right foot on the same day, according to the AP. It's expected to take him 8-12 weeks to recover, so he may be ready for action when the season begins. You'll have to see how he does in spring training to be certain, though.

Chad Gaudin will be allowed to throw 90 pitches in Tuesday's start against Chicago, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Gaudin figures to get a handful of starts to prove himself, as Esteban Loaiza is still 3-6 weeks away from throwing.

Chad Gaudin will start Thursday at Anaheim, the Athletics official site reports. He's stepping in for the injured Esteban Loaiza. "If we need (Gaudin) to make a second start, he'll be stretched out enough by then to slide right into that No. 4 spot for as long as we need him," A's manager Bob Geren said. "Hopefully it won't come to that."

The A's gave Chad Gaudin a start on Monday, and he gave up just one hit, while striking out four batters, in three scoreless innings. He'll work mostly in the seventh and eighth innings, but the A's could use him as an emergency starter. "We're very pleased with his versatility," manager Bob Geren said. "As the season progressed last year, Chad took on more late-game responsibility."

A's manager Bob Geren said he plans to stretch Chad Gaudin out this spring, so the reliever could make longer appearances, according to the Contra Costa Times. Gaudin could end up working two-plus innings when he gets into game action.
