The Marlins will open the season without right-hander Sergio Mitre , this according to the Sun-Sentinel. Mitre left camp Wednesday for a consultation with orthopedic surgeon James Andrews (never good) and was diagnosed with a right forearm strain. The treatment plan calls for Mitre to refrain from a throwing motion for 4-to-6 weeks. Best case, Mitre won't be ready for his 2008 debut until late May. This takes Mitre's NL-only fantasy interest from lukewarm to mild.

Sergio Mitre has been diagnosed with a strained right forearm and won't be able to throw for the next four-to-six weeks, according to MLB.com. The timetable means Mitre won't appear in a major league game until at least June. The right-hander is worth drafting now only in the latter rounds of NL-only play.

Sergio Mitre went to the team doctor on Wednesday morning, according to the Palm Beach Post. The report noted that the Marlins wouldn’t explain why but what is known is that he had some kind of set-back in his recovery from a right forearm strain. Mitre threw off the mound Tuesday and said at the time he felt fine, but given the morning events his assessment of fine yesterday, isn't what it is today. Sergio Mitre was back on the mound Tuesday to throw a bullpen session, according to the AP. He's dealing with tightness in his forearm and is scheduled to toss another session in two days. It's not clear at this time when he'll be available for exhibition game action.

Sergio Mitre will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, this after injuring his right forearm on Feb 28th, this according to MLB.com. Mitre has actually been dealing with muscle tightness in the forearm, but the Fish are still holding out hope that he will be able to take the ball on a regular basis this year after an up and down 2007 in which he made 27 starts.

Sergio Mitre ended up undergoing an MRI on his strained forearm, but the test revealed no damage to his elbow ligaments, according to the Miami Herald. "The ligament is safe," Mitre said Saturday. Mitre was pulled from his spring debut Thursday due to soreness in his forearm. The Marlins will keep him shut down for a bit in order to let the injury heal, but it's not clear if this will affect his availability for the beginning of the regular season.

Ligament damage has been ruled out. “I guess that’s good, but you never know,” Mitre said. Mitre said he’ll try to resume throwing next week but will have an MRI if the discomfort persists.

Sergio Mitre wasn't even able to make it through the first inning on Thursday as he was forced to leave the game due to elbow soreness, according to a report on the AP. “It’s disappointing. It’s something I wasn’t expecting at all. It came out of nowhere,” Mitre said. “I threw a changeup and felt it stiffen up real bad. Then I tried to throw a couple more pitches. It wasn’t happening..." Mitre is penciled in as the team's second starter, so if he were to go down the Marlins thin rotation would necessarily become even thinner.
