The Tigers placed outfielder Freddy Guzman on outright waivers Thursday, this according to the Detroit Free Press. If in fact he clears the wire, he will be sent to Triple-A Toledo. This roster move indicates that Clete Thomas is likely the 25th man for the opening day roster.

Freddy Guzman's three-run home run with two outs helped Detroit to a 9-7 victory against the Pirates in 10 innings on Sunday. Guzman, who was a December acquisition from the Rangers, was a Triple-A monster last year in Oki City registering 56 steals in 133 games. He continues to compete for a utility role with arguably the best team in the American League.

The Tigers acquired Freddy Guzman from the Rangers Wednesday in exchange for Chris Shelton. Guzman hit .269 with 56 steals in 133 games at Triple-A last year, and he could compete for a utility role with Detroit next season.

The Rangers optioned Freddy Guzman to Triple-A Oklahoma on Saturday to make room on the roster for pitcher Robinson Tejeda, according to the AP. Guzman was recalled on Wednesday and played in one game this week. He is 2-for-7 this season with Texas with one run scored.
