The Padres officially moved Freddy Guzman to the 60-day DL on Monday in order to clear up a spot on the 40-man roster. Guzman is sidelined following reconstructive surgery on his elbow.

Freddy Guzman will open the season on Triple-A Portland's disabled list and could have arthroscopic surgery next month if the injury to the elbow of his throwing arm doesn't improve, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "We don't think he'll need reconstruction surgery," Padres GM Kevin Towers said.

The Padres sent Triple-A center fielder Freddy Guzman to get a second opinion on his injured throwing elbow, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He is going to have a contrast MRI taken to determine the extent of bone damage and is not expected to play for at least the next month.

Freddy Guzman has been diagnosed with a bone bruise, not a torn ligament, in his right elbow, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. There was fear he may have needed season-ending surgery, but he will only be out about six weeks.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Freddy Guzman has been diagnosed with a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow that could require reconstructive surgery. "It looks like he's going to be out a while," manager Bruce Bochy said. Guzman will be examined further later this week to determine if season-ending surgery will be necessary.

The Padres have shut Freddy Guzman down for the second straight spring due to a sore throwing elbow, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He's been diagnosed with a strained flexor muscle in the joint. "He'll be out at least a few days," manager Bruce Bochy said.
