Marlins pitcher Scott Olsen has had better games than the one he threw on Sunday in his team's 6-2 loss to New York. Olsen went 6.1 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, including three home runs.

Scott Olsen would like to remain with the Marlins, primarily to see how the rotation would fare over the course of an entire season, according to the Miami Herald. Olsen is one of the team's three starters eligible for arbitration after this season, and is also aware that he could be the odd man out in that group as the Marlins decide which pitchers to keep. He said, "I don't know exactly where it's going to fall. Personally, I'd like to see what us five guys could do throughout the course of a whole year together. I would just like to have one shot where we get us five guys together and see what happens."

The Marlins have been concerned with Scott Olsen's lack of velocity in recent starts, but the lefty's velocity was better in Monday's start. He had been topping out at 85 lately, but Monday he was averaging 88 MPH and touched 92. "I felt good. My fastball was coming out pretty well," Olsen said on MLB.com. Olsen's slider was also much improved Monday after pitching coach Mark Wiley detected something in the southpaw's delivery before the game, which was corrected.

Scott Olsen is having velocity problems with his pitches, according to FishStripes.com. He struggled to get his fastball above 85 mph in last night's loss to the Mets, and the play-by-play announcer actually mistaken his fastball for a changeup on one occasion, which clocked at only 83 mph.

Scott Olsen has some pretty ratios (2.63 ERA, 1.08 WHIP), but the truth is there are concerns with the big lefties arm, according to MLB.com. In his last start Olsen did not break 87 mph on the gun and he was pulled after just 59 pitches. Olsen says he is fine and that he hopes, hopes, he is just experiencing dead arm. "I hope so. The Nationals did a poor job of situational hitting on Wednesday night, their problem during their six game losing streak. The Nats have left the bases loaded nine times this season. Scott Olsen who picked up the win in the Marlins 10-4 victory went 7 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned),four hits and four walks. Olsen hasn't been the same since injuring himself in 2006, and while tonight's effort resulted in a win, he wasn't impressive in the outing. Owners outside of NL-only formats should avoid the Marlins right-hander.

Scott Olsen is ready to make his season debut on Friday. He missed most of spring training due to shoulder tendinitis and is dealing with bone spurs in his elbow. "Bone spurs have never bothered me, and I still got it," Olsen tells the Miami Herald. "They say you can throw with it. The team gave me an option in 2005 if I wanted to have surgery or not. I asked them if I could throw with [bone spurs], and they said many guys have them and throw with them. I feel fine with my shoulder and elbow." Fantasy owners should avoid Olsen until he proves he's healthy and ready to work with some consistency.

Left-hander Scott Olsen (shoulder tendinitis) will take the bullpen rubber for a throwing session today. According to the Sun Sentinel, Olsen has not yet been ruled out as the opening day starter. The paper noted that some combination of Mark Hendrickson, Andrew Miller and Ricky Nolasco, Gaby Hernandez, Rick VandenHurk or Doug Waechter will join Olsen in the rotation. Skipper Fredi Gonzalez told the Miami Herald after watching Scott Olsen pitch Tuesday, he's not sure his projected starter for opening day will be up to task. Welcome in 22-year old Andrew Miller. There are growing doubts by the team's manager that Scott Olsen or Sergio Mitre will be ready for the March 31 opener against the New York Mets. Expect Gonzalez to set the stage for a season that will throw youth to the fire, and give the inexperienced Miller, 22, the opening day honors.

As expected, Scott Olsen returned to the mound for a bullpen session on Tuesday, according to the AP. He was scratched from his last start Wednesday due to tendinitis in his left shoulder. We'll have to wait to see how the joint responds to the workout tomorrow, but this is a positive step.

Scott Olsen won't talk about his current shoulder injury, according to the Palm Beach Post. The report notes that Olsen is usually talkative with reporters, but had little to say about a shoulder injury that forced him to miss Thursday's scheduled start against the St. Louis Cardinals. "It's just something,'' the left-handed starter said Thursday morning about what the team is calling tendinitis in his throwing shoulder. "I don't know what it is. It's going to get fixed. I don't want to talk about it.'' Olsen is the team projected opening day starter.

Scott Olsen has a case of shoulder tendinitis that will keep him from making his scheduled start on Wednesday, this according to the Sun-Sentinel. Olsen will likely sit out for 2-3 days before he resumes his throwing. This is believed to be a minor case of tendinitis that just needs a couple of days to calm down, so the prognosis is good for Olsen who is looking to make his way back from a hideous 2007 campaign (5.81 ERA, 1.76 WHIP).

Scott Olsen will start the Marlins' first spring training game Wednesday. That doesn't necessarily mean he'll get the ball on opening day, though. "That's not necessarily the case," manager Fredi Gonzalez said in the AP. "We could tweak that later on any way we want to." Sergio Mitre is the team's other opening day option. "Obviously I want to start opening day," Olsen said. "I'm not the only one. It can be taken away and it hasn’t been given to me." Olsen had a disappointing 2007 season, posting a 5.81 ERA, but with Dontrelle Willis out of the picture, he seems like the logical candidate to start the opener.

Scott Olsen hopes that all the work he has done of late will help to erase any felony charges that have been filed against him for the DUI and resisting arrest incident last season. "We anticipate that all felony charges against Scott will be dismissed this month,'' his attorney, Lawrence Reynoso, said.
