Brian Bannister is slated to start for Kansas City on Tuesday, but the team plans to shut him down after that, according to the AP. "They are going to do what is in the best interest of the team, for me and next year," Bannister said. "There is no reason in doing something that would hurt me in getting ready for next year." Bannister has pitched 164 innings for the Royals this year, holding a 3.61 ERA. It's hard to argue with the numbers he's put up, although his K/9 rate (4.2) doesn't leave him much room for error.

Brian Bannister battled a viral infection this week but should be fine for today's start. The symptoms included pink eye, according to the KC Star. "I feel a lot better," he said. "Two days ago was the worst. It usually takes five days for it to run its course. My fifth day will be (today), so I should be good to go."
