Brian McCann continues to play well despite being dinged up, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He's beat up," said manager Bobby Cox. "Toes on both feet are [messed] up. His hand. He has a bad ankle. ... I don't know how he's doing it." Cox limited McCann to pinch-hitting duties on Sunday to get a break, though.

Brian McCann indicated Sunday that his left ankle was still bothering him, according to the AP. "I can catch, throw, do everything but run," McCann said. "Another couple weeks, it'll be back to normal." McCann is hitting .297 over the past nine games.

Brian McCann has kept on playing this week despite re-injuring his sprained left ankle when he slipped on some steps Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It's black and blue, but it's fine," McCann said. Although he's walking with a noticeable limp, he said the injury was in a different part of the joint and not as serious as the strained ligaments he sustained May 20.

As expected, Brian McCann began what is expected to be a two-game rehab assignment at Single-A Rome last night, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. McCann is expected to be activated from the disabled list during the Braves' four-game series against the Astros which begins Thursday, though manager Bobby Cox was uncertain whether the catcher would be in the lineup before the weekend. "He'll come back and do some throwing and footwork stuff," Cox said. "Then we'll see if he's ready Thursday. If not, we'll see Friday or Saturday."

"He can run straight ahead as hard as he can with zero problems," head trainer Jeff Porter said, "but he just found out he can't cut. Cox said. "McCann is swinging good. I've been thinking about moving him up there for three weeks."
