Brian McCann will not undergo left ankle surgery this offseason. There were thoughts that he may need an operation to remove a bone spur, but he will opt for rest, MLB.com reports. McCann may still undergo a different type of surgery, though. He is thinking of having a Lasik procedure.

Brian McCann returned to action on Friday after missing Wednesday's game due to his bum ankle. McCann confirmed that he may require a minor offseason procedure to repair the joint, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The catcher has a bone spur in his ankle that may need to be removed, though he would be fully recovered in plenty of time for spring training. For now, he's going to keep playing, though he may be removed at times for a pinch-runner, like he was in the eighth inning of Friday's game.

The test revealed no structural damage, and McCann was able to enter Friday's game as a defensive replacement in the seventh inning, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He said he would be ready to play on Saturday and in the All-Star game, so it appears to be nothing serious.

Brian McCann agreed to a six-year, $28.6 million contract with the Braves on Wednesday, according to the AP. The deal includes a $12 million option for 2013 with a $500,000 buyout. "He made the All-Star team at a very early age and he's one of the top catchers in the game today," GM John Schuerholz said. "He made the All-Star team. He won the Silver Slugger award and the pitchers love throwing to him. That's as important as anything. He's a special type guy, so we wanted to do something special."
