The A's acquired second baseman Donnie Murphy from the Royals in exchange for cash considerations. Murphy hit .249 with 14 homers in 94 games for Double-A Wichita last season. He does not figure in the big league plans of the A's for 2007.

Donnie Murphy has been turning heads at the Royals’ complex in Surprise, Ariz, according to the Kansas City Star. “Donnie Murphy is the talk of the place,” catcher John Buck said. “There’s always one guy going into camp who looks really good, and if you ask anyone who’s been there, it’s Donnie Murphy. He’s lost 15 to 20 pounds. And he’s stronger.”
