Lou Piniella indicated that Fernando Cortez will get his first major league start either today or Wednesday, according to the Tampa Tribune. He was called up from Triple-A Durham over the weekend. "He can play second and he can play short," Piniella said. "We talked to [Durham manager] Bill Evers down there and he said he's been playing more second base at Triple-A. He played some shortstop at Double-A. And he says he can swing the bat a little bit, can put the ball in play." Cortez was hitting .278 and was 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts in 21 games with Durham this year.
